How Do I Access Recent Ada County Arrest Records & Mugshots for Free?

Thanks to the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), as well as Idaho’s Public Records Act, everyone has the right to request public records — including information on arrests made in the state.1, 2

The best place to check when researching arrest records in Ada County is through the county sheriff’s office. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining the County Jail, which houses all arrestees in the county.3

The sheriff’s office has two handy online features for individuals to use to find out if someone they know has been arrested.

First, you can use the website’s Current Arrests Search Portal to view information and mugshots for everyone arrested within the past five days.4 You can choose to enter a last name to start a search, or you can scroll through to see all of the recent arrests.

For each offender, you’ll see their name, age, and arrest date and time. You can also view the charges against them.

A screenshot from the Ada County Sheriff's Office displays drop-down menus for filtering the list, an input bar for criteria search, and an arrestee's information, including the following: name, age, arrest time and date, status, charge count, agency, severity of offense, charge, statute, and type of event.

Second, you can use the website’s Inmate Search Tool to see everyone who is currently housed in the Ada County Jail (except for juvenile offenders).5 You’ll be able to view each arrestee’s mugshot, as well as the charges against them, the amount of bail that can be posted for their release, and their jail identification number.

However, there’s a limitation to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office’s database: Information on arrestees is updated only every 24 hours. This means that if someone has been arrested or released before the daily update, the new information may not show up.

Therefore, to verify someone’s current arrest status, researchers may want to contact the sheriff’s office by calling 208.577.3000.

You can also request a copy of an arrest report from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office once any open investigation has been closed. You can do so by submitting an online public records request or by mailing a written request to the following address:6

There are two options for posting bail: You can do so by paying the bail amount directly, or you can recruit the services of a bail bondsman or agency.

The Ada County Jail’s Inmate Search Tool displays the bail amount required.5 You can visit the jail in person to pay the amount with cash, a cashier’s check, or a money order. In addition to the bail amount, you must also pay a $25 administrative fee.
